Our Logo

Inspired by Marc Chagall’s stained-glass windows in Jerusalem, the Mercaz Academy logo represents the intersection of modern and ancient Judaism embodied in an Orthodox elementary school. The logo is the creation of Max Kahn, a graphic designer who grew up in Plainview and attended Mercaz’s predecessor.

“When designing this identity,” Max told us, “I wanted to ensure that it captured the connections enabled by Mercaz Academy – uniting communities across Nassau and Suffolk Counties, excelling in Judaic and secular studies, and building bridges between America and Israel."

With that in mind, Max brought his vision to life. The lower case, sans serif “m” evokes the organic warmth and accessibility that characterizes our school. This “m” houses the “A”, which together call to mind the initials of Mercaz Academy. Equally significant is the overlaid “mem” with Torah handles, which proudly broadcasts not only our school’s commitment to Torah but the synthesis of our dual identity and that exceptional Judaic and general studies are core elements of our school. Our logo is transparent and adaptable, with no background or boundary, setting this apart from more traditional logos that are constrained in a circle or classic-looking badge.

We thank Max for his insight and skill in crafting this logo as a most fitting representation of the values that Mercaz fosters.
